Using Google Maps to plan your journey

// May 30th, 2009 // No Comments » // Reviews, Tips & Tricks

Yesterday I tried Google Maps India to get the directions from one place to another. I tried few routes. It is not very accurate but very helpful to get an idea about the route. Not accurate means, the route is correct but there may be other short routes.

1st I tried to get directions from my home to my office at Technopark, Trivandrum.

From Google map

Other routes

We have 3 main routes to reach there.

  1. Thiruvalla -> Kottarakkara -> Kilimanoor -> Aatigal -> Kazhakkutam – This route is not listed in the map
  2. Podiyadi -> Mavelikkara -> Kayamkulam -> Aatigal -> Kazhakkutam – This route is not listed in the map
  3. Harippad -> Kayamkulam -> Aatigal -> Kazhakkutam – This route is not listed in the map

Only 2 routes are listed in the map.

One is Thiruvalla -> Chaganachery -> Alappy -> Harippad -> Kayamkulam -> Aatigal -> Kazhakkutam – This route is listed in the map.

They are correct but very long.  Via NH47 is 177KM if we follow the directions in google maps but we have other route, via NH47 which is less than 120KM.  In this route I can directly goto Harippad(14kms from home), but if i follow google’s direction, I have to travel more than 60km to reach Harippad.

So first your search the direction to get a small idea about the routes and then search in between places for another short routes or ask someone else ;) . But I am sure this service is very helpfull to get an initial route and then process the route to get the shortest route.

Dude.. don’t think about Travelling Salesman problem ;-)

Chandrayaan 1: Indian probe touches down on Moon

// November 15th, 2008 // No Comments » // Miscellaneous

In a historic event, the Indian space programme achieved a unique feat on November 14, 2008 with the placing of Indian tricolour on the Moon’s surface on Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday. The Indian flag was painted on the sides of Moon Impact Probe (MIP), one of the 11 payloads of Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft, that successfully hit the lunar surface at 20:31 hrs (8:31 pm) IST. This is the first Indian built object to reach the surface of the moon. The point of MIP’s impact was near the Moon’s South Polar Region.

These two are close up pictures of the moon’s surface taken by Moon Impact Probe (MIP) on November 14, 2008 as it approached it after separating from Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft.

HAPPY REPUBLIC DAY
26th January 1950 is one of the most important days in Indian history as it was on this day the constitution of India came into force and India became a truly sovereign state. In this day India became a totally republican unit. The country finally realized the dream of Mahatma Gandhi and the numerous freedom fighters who, fought for and sacrificed their lives for the Independence of their country. So, the 26th of January was decreed a national holiday and has been recognized and celebrated as the Republic Day of India, ever since.
